What "24/7 IT Support" Really Means (and What to Demand)

Every IT company's website says 24/7. What that phrase actually buys you ranges from "an engineer fixes your server at 2 AM" to "a call center in another time zone opens a ticket for Monday." Here is how to tell which one you are being sold.

The three flavors of "24/7"

24/7 monitoring means software watches your systems around the clock and alerts someone when a disk fills or a server drops. This is table stakes: automation does the watching.

24/7 answering means a human takes your call at any hour. Read the fine print: is that human an engineer who can fix things, or a dispatcher who logs a ticket for business hours?

24/7 response, the one that matters, means qualified action on critical issues at any hour, with a written definition of "critical" and a committed response time. If a provider cannot show you that definition in the contract, their 24/7 is marketing.

Questions that separate real coverage from a slogan

Ask: Who exactly answers at 2 AM, an employee or an answering service? What is the committed response time for a down server versus a user who is locked out? Is work after hours included in my plan or billed at time and a half? Can I see the escalation path in writing?

A provider with real coverage answers in specifics. A provider selling a slogan answers with the word "absolutely."

How we do it (so you can compare)

Monitoring is 24/7 on every plan, including Essential. A 24/7 human help desk starts on the Professional tier. Response to critical issues is defined in writing: 15 minutes for anything that stops the business, any hour, and the engineer who answers is the one who knows your setup. There is no call center to escalate through, because there is no call center.

For businesses without a plan, ad hoc emergencies are still $89/hour, the same rate at 2 PM or 2 AM. We would rather be the company you can afford to call at night than the one that profits from your outage.

Want the 15 minute response commitment in writing? It is in every Professional plan quote. Ask for one.
