A Full Enterprise Build: Kiosks, Virtualization, and 3 Month Video Retention in Aventura

A three story commercial complex in Aventura combined a high speed indoor entertainment venue on the ground floor with corporate offices on the two floors above. It needed what amounts to a small enterprise: public check in systems that could survive hundreds of daily visitors, insurance grade video retention, and strict separation between the public venue and the corporate networks upstairs.

Scope
Kiosks, virtualization, network separation and video recording

Where it stands: The venue eventually grew large enough to hire in house IT staff, which is the best possible way to lose a client.

The challenge

  • Public check-in needed a digital waiver workflow that staff could operate at visitor volume.
  • The venue specified multi-month video retention across its operating areas.
  • The public entertainment network needed to be separated from the corporate offices.

What we built

Custom self service kiosks, hardware and software

Custom built wooden kiosk enclosures housing compact PCs, running a purpose written Java waiver application in locked kiosk mode. Visitors checked themselves in; staff stayed on operations.

Dual node virtualization cluster

A high availability ESXi cluster running redundant Windows Server domain controllers, the waiver database, and the venue management software, designed to keep operating fully if the internet connection failed.

High density video retention

An enterprise PoE camera and recording system was built around the venue’s stated multi-month retention requirement. Recording capacity and retention were part of the infrastructure scope.

Floor by floor network isolation

Public venue traffic, kiosk systems, and guest Wi-Fi lived on isolated VLANs, fully separated from the corporate domain upstairs.

The results

  • The venue could retrieve waiver records and recorded footage when reviewing incidents.
  • Self-service check-in kiosks reduced the manual work at reception.
  • The infrastructure supported the business during an engagement of about three years, before it hired its own IT staff.
